How to choose a notebook with the best resolution

When looking to buy a new laptop computer, there will be many options to choose from. The choices are endless, so it is important to know what you want when you are shopping around. Most people are concerned with the size of the hard drive, processor speed, included applications and screen resolution. All of these are an important part of the decision, though some options may be easier to decide on than others. Most laptops have processor speeds of 512 MB or 1024 MB. Seeing that these are the two that are most common, this decision is fairly simple. You obviously want the fastest processor available, so most people will opt for the 1024 MB. Hard drive space will depend on what you are using the computer for. If it is for recreation, then you won’t need a drive as large as if it were supporting a home business.

Many recreation users will buy a laptop for gaming purposes. Some games on the market require a lot of space on the hard drive. Regardless of what the use will be, try to get a laptop with the most amount of available memory. Many of them can be expanded, so if you find that you do not have enough memory, you will be able to add some to meet your computing needs. Most laptops operate using a Windows system with all of the latest software included. Generally, all computers will come with standard programs and applications. Some may have added photo or music software, but the base applications will be the same. They will all have a version of Windows that will allow users to access word processing, databases and spreadsheets. Of course, additional software may be purchased, but if you can find a laptop that is already loaded with the software you will need, it will be best to choose that particular computer or another model made by the same company.

Screen resolution is something that not many people are overly familiar with. Because the majority of laptops on the market have an LCD screen, the resolution is a very important part of your buying decision. The most common resolutions available on a laptop are WXGA, WSXGA and WUXGA. It is important to know what each of these mean and how they will relate to your computing experience. To begin with, the W signifies that it is a widescreen, so you need only be concerned with the characters that follow.

The screen resolution actually refers to the amount of pixels that are displayed. If the screen is bigger, there are usually more pixels. Most laptop screens are around fifteen inches. This is a good size because you have a choice of resolutions. Many people believe that high resolutions mean better viewing quality. This is not always the case. If your computer supports high resolutions, and you change the settings, you will notice that the item being displayed on the screen at the higher resolution is actually smaller. It may be a little more defined and have better quality, but the size will be significantly smaller. WXGA resolution supports a resolution of 1366×768.

This is the most common LCD screen resolution on laptops. It is possible to buy one with WSXGA or WUXGA. SXGA resolution is 1440×900 and UXGA is 1920×1200. The higher the resolution, the smaller the text size will be on the screen. It is best to buy a laptop that supports the highest resolution. Then you can change the settings as you need to, but can always set it lower so the screen display will be large and readable. High-resolution settings are great for viewing pictures and gaming. For everyday use, it is better to configure settings to a lower resolution to avoid strain on the eyes.
